Coach Joe Lafornara (USCF 1800): Tournament Intro and Prep
Our Super Team groups meet once a week for six weeks. The purpose of these programs is to give your student additional opportunities to study, learn and practice playing chess in a fun and exciting environment!
This Super Team Group is designed for chess players who have either never played in a live chess tournament, or have only participated in a few and are looking for more practice.
Coach Joe will teach the students how to properly uses a chess clock, take proper chess notation with little or no errors, and discuss the rules of what to do and not do in a live chess tournament when certain situations arise. Coach Joe will prepare students on what to do when faced with situations like opponents or other players unnecessarily talking during the games, handling “touch move/touch take” issues, properly offering and accepting draws during their games, how to handle “time pressure” with the chess clock and many other tournament basics!
This class is vital to prepare your child for in-person tournament play, so they know what to expect during the event and how to optimize their enjoyment of the tournament and the game of chess.
If you have any questions about the class, feel free to contact Coach Joe Lafornara at 480-865-2299 or email him at jlafornara@chessemporium.com
