The Chess Emporium has heard your requests, and is now offering introductory online chess classes for parents!
Coach Joe Lafornara, one of our top rated coaches, and the 1995 U.S. Class "A" National Chess Champion, is now offering online beginner, and intermediate, 90-minute chess classes so you can learn chess at your own pace and in a timeframe that fits your busy schedule!
Chess courses being offered to start with include:
Chess 101: For absolute beginners: This course is designed for those that either do not know how to play chess at all, or need a refresher on how to play chess.
Topics to be covered are:
Basic rules of chess on how the pieces move.
The three “special” moves of chess which are castling, en-passant, and pawn promotion.
Check, checkmate and stalemate and how to know the difference between all three.
How to read a chess board and understand chess notation.
Pricing for the Chess 101 Introductory class is $69.00.
Chess 201: Intermediate Chess This course is designed to now teach you how to play chess well and not lose in under 10 moves!
Topics to be covered are:
Opening principles of chess (I.E. how to play the first 15 moves of a chess game correctly so you now have a good chance of winning the game.
Explanation through puzzles of the “A, B, C” of check, this concept will teach you how to correctly respond when your king is placed in check.
The “4, 6, 9” rule of checkmate so you know how to recognize checkmate and be able to visually see how to give checkmate to your opponent, and also respond to if they are threatening checkmate upon you!
Pricing for the Chess 201 Intermediate class is $89.00.
Once registered Coach Joe will email you with the online class access link for you to attend the class (Microsoft Teams recommended). Classes will be available for download afterward if requested, to allow you to refer back in the event you forget something or want to go over it again!
CHESS 101 Class Dates: Monday, December 16TH at 6:30PM & Tuesday, December 17TH at 6:30PM CHESS 201 Class Dates: Thursday, December 19TH at 6:30PM & Saturday, December 21ST at 10:00AM.
If you cannot make any of these dates, don't worry, there will be additional classes offered in January (TBD).
